Why "The Cock and The Starfish"?
Well, because I find it humorous...there is a 'fun-absurdity' to gay art--a vulgarity that is freeing! I like blatant-"tongue-in-cheek"-iness, it helps me get through my day, what can I say? {That, and I read a lot of Camus, along with some Marquis de Sade and Oscar Wilde thrown in for good-measure).

 I like the idea of using slang (idioms) to describe works of art, especially homo-erotic art, this piece--the pose that is depicted is specifically directed (targeted) to gays as it evokes appetitive desire...I think it's safe to say that men who are attracted to other men want to see the entire 'nether-regions' of men they find attractive...to look-upon the front and rear simultaneously is one of the most enticing "money-shots" of these Porno-Obsessed (as well as information, advertising,---Technology----Hyper-glut!) times. Things seem to be less and less sacred...maybe not, but you always hear those stories of the how things used to be, the "good old days"...well those days are gone. (Listen to Amy Macdonald's song "Youth of Today", that's what I mean.) I know that sounds pessimistic/cynical, but that's not my aim...not entirely anyway. I wanted this piece to 'belong' to the Present-day, to reflect the "in your face" nature of these Times. The starkness of a world less in-tune with myth. So enjoy the cracked Aesop's Fables-esque Title! Just shake your head and say Yes! {Okay, that's enough of my crazy-ramblings for now. ;^P }

In other news!: I love how this piece turned out, I spent about 3 hours a day over the course of 3 days to finish it...I don't like to rush and "churn"-my art out, and I also don't like to get my self frustrated and agitated. [Slow-and-steady wins the race!] I also allowed myself to really add on detail and work on color in-relation to my older works which were produced in more of a time-crunch when I still had Art School work to do, it was a NICE CHANGE! Seattle has also been good for me, I love the chilly-weather and the mellow-pace. My new apartment bedroom has lots of natural sunlight which I know will aid in my creation of more artworks in the near-future.

Thank you for visiting with me, Jesse
