New! Standard-Size Offerings! I proudly-present the 1st (more to come): "Modern Fitness" { 5" X 7" (inches) }

 Hello Friends and Collectors,

I have decided to offer standard-size pieces of art...that is standard photo-print sizes ( 5" x 7" , 4" x 6" and 8" x 10" ). I want my collectors to be able to 'pop' my art into a frame and be able to enjoy it on their wall, dresser, desktop, or mantle right-away! I also plan to include frames with select-artworks soon, so I wanted to make things easier on myself as well. By all means get them custom-framed, but at these convenient-sizes they will be safe and visible until you can get down to the frame shop. :^D

I am pleased to have a fresh Mixed-Media (graphite/pencil, acrylic, gesso, and matte-medium on recycled card/chip board) painting to Offer-Up for Sale on eBay ( http://myworld.ebay.com/lerobinetart ). I will also be posting Limited-Edition Signed Prints of "Modern Fitness" on my Etsy Shop in the next 3 days. (FYI: I plan on having Prints available within 3 days of offering the Originals on eBay from now on.)

About "Modern Fitness":

This piece features an athletic, mustached, and bearded hunk about to get undressed after an intense workout at the gym! This piece is dedicated to the ab-lovers out there! (...& honestly who isn't one?)

I wanted to do a piece that could be displayed prominently in the home-gym or bedroom...my 'raw' artworks are fun to make, but I suspect most people wouldn't find them 'appropriate' for prominent-display.

Another goal for this piece was to make it feel more modern/post modern by calling-attention to the mediums and by making the piece have a very bold/graphic and otherwise design-centric feel. I also added dimension by painting the front of the figure (foreground) white and the back of the figure black...so this makes me imagine that the man is standing if front of an extremely-bright fluorescent light or a waterfall.

I threw all-convention aside as-far-as painting the figure, and instead showcased my pencil-drawing skills...forevermore laid bare for you to admire. The traditional technique in rendering the figure contrasts quite-nicely with the flatness and simplicity of the painted background. I get the purest-joy from my pencil-work (as I first mentioned when I presented my piece "Hatchling" ).

I love how warm and inviting the brown of the recycled cardboard is, and the way the pencil sits on the subtle-texture of it. The graphite has a nice sheen that pairs well with the matte-finish of the cardboard.

My decision to split the piece into black and white occurred-naturally as I began to sketch out the figure and decide upon the scale...I like that the figure cut the picture-plane in half, and I loved the contours of the body which really inform the "negative-space" of this artwork. From a distance the eye will be drawn to these contours, but the viewer will have to step closer to see the delicate-rendering and detail of the pencil unfold...this is fitting to me, because---after all, the human figure is the subject and deserves more focus/meditation.

About the sweat-bands: My favorite color is red, so I couldn't help but a dash of color, and I feel it adds a photo-filter kind of aspect to the piece. People sure do love their photo-filters these days! ;^P |  This color-blocking adds a bit of flash and another aspect for the viewer to ponder.

( Note about durability: The piece is finished with an abrasion-resistant coating, so you don't have to worry about smudging the pencil or chipping at the paint...it also adds moisture-resistance to the cardboard.)
