NEW Mixed Media piece!: PIQUE

Salutations Collectors and Friends,

I am very excited to share my newest homo-erotic artwork with you all! My latest piece is a small mixed-media drawing of a cute fella with a "too-hott-to-handle" athletic body! This artwork began as an experiment that proved to be successful and transformed into the finished piece that I now present to you all below ^_^.

What was the experiment? Well, I had some matte-medium that I had purchased in-error a while back (I usually use the more transparent type) and I also had some sturdy cardboard from an old sketch pad so I knew I wanted to use these for a new work of art, and being of an ecologically-sustainable mind I always want to utilize materials that are every-day, and that may be lying around my apartment. Don't get the wrong idea...my desire to use these items stems not from a hesitation to buy new art supplies (I love art supply-shopping although it can be overwhelming with the myriad of goods available and new innovative offerings! ) , but because I enjoy being resourceful and using what I already have...perhaps it is a remnant of my up-bringing by Depression-era grandparents? Whatever the reason, these materials, and this process, inspires me more than the removal of plastic-packaging and that "new paper smell". I love simplicity, natural fibers (the look/style) and evidence of the human hand (touch) upon a creative work. The bonus of this combination of materials is that it is very stable and the matte-medium creates an acrylic-coat which is moisture and scratch resistant. I also didn't know how this ground (the stable part/foundation of the art piece) would work with dry media (colored pencil, chalks etc.) and I am so glad that I liked the way they interacted, which was quite smooth and visually-appealing.

I have often struggled with what to write about for this Blog, but I have decided to keep it casual and just talk about what I feel is most relevant to the pieces, even if is is just about the materials-used or the process used to create them. I am sure I will write about personal things on occasion and have more 'backstories' behind the pieces, but I am just going to stop 'over-thinking' it, as this has not done me any service in the past.

Now to talk about the Title of the piece: I went through...let me just count...24 different ideas, but finally settled on "Pique", so here I go with my foray into vocab as I have done in the past:

pique

1 [peek] Show IPA verb, piqued, piqu·ing, noun
verb (used with object)

1. to affect with sharp irritation and resentment, especially by some wound to pride: She was greatly piqued when they refused her invitation.

2. to wound (the pride, vanity, etc.).

3. to excite (interest, curiosity, etc.): Her curiosity was piqued by the gossip.

4. to arouse an emotion or provoke to action: to pique someone to answer a challenge.

5. Archaic . to pride (oneself) (usually followed by on  or upon ).

[ pique." Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc. 04 Oct. 2012. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pique ]

____________

+ Here I was going for the 3rd and 4th definitions of this word. +

_____________________
I thought it fit the piece perfectly, because of the same reason this word is misused...because it get's confused by "peek" and "peak"  (as the figure is allowing the viewer to take a "peek"...so both pique and peek add to the subject illustrated.

 More on the misuse of this word:

This is what the Washington State University had to offer on this common error ( http://public.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/peaked.html ):
It is tempting to think that your attention might be aroused to a high point by “peaking” your curiosity; but in fact, “pique” is a French word meaning “prick,” in the sense of “stimulate.”

The expression has nothing to do with “peek,” either. Therefore the expression is “my curiosity was piqued.”

An amazing number of people write about “mountain peeks.” A peak is a summit; a peek is a glimpse.
_____________________
I thought the expression ( "my curiosity was piqued" ) used "peak" as well, so by sharing this information I hope this error will be made less in the future! ^_^
+++++++++++

All-in-all: I want to Thank everyone who visits my humble-Blog, and I want EVERYONE to know that with Le Robinet Gay Art nothing is simple... I put a lot of thought, hardwork and care into each and every work of art I produce. I LOVE being able to say that I take PRIDE in my pieces and that I have never offered anything up for sale that I could not stand behind 100%. I have often wanted to churn my art out rapidly, but every time I have to submit to my somewhat-slow and conscientious process...that's just the way I roll, and there's no sense in trying to go against it ( I have come to realize ).

That all being said I would really appreciate the Support of my Readers/Viewers in any-an- all ways possible, from Sharing LeRobinetGayArt with your friends by following me on Facebook and Twitter TO adding a few pieces to your personal art collection.
{ I still need more "Likes" on Facebook to have my page operating at full-capacity! ;^P wink! wink! }

I truly believe that my success relies on My Audience as much as it does on my skills!

Thanks again, Jesse
